Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno and NCFP Chairman/President Prospero A. Pichay Jr. will grace the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 Governor Oscar S. Moreno National Age Group Chess Championships to be held at 9:00 Am today (March 24, 2012) at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental. This will coincide with the blessing of the newly renovated Chess Plaza.
Hosted and sponsored by the Province of Misamis Oriental and organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), the Champions in each Category (Under-20, Under-16, Under-14, Under-12, Under-10 and Under 8 for boys and Girls) will represent the Country in the 2012 ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships in Hue Vietnam and the top five placers are qualified to participate in the Grand Finals to be held in Tanauan, Batangas from April 23 – 30, 2012.
Gov. Moreno stated that “We have just finished the renovation of our chess plaza which offers a well-lighted and covered playing venue. With the staging of this tournament, we will be able to generate enough interest to boost our objective to promote chess in our Province.”
“To show the hospitality of the people of MIsamis Oriental, we will also provide free Hotel accommodation for the players at the Budgetel Hotel located at the heart of the City.”

The 2012 Gov. Oscar S. Moreno Juniors Chess Championships will also be held at the same venue on March 28 – 31, 2012.
