One of the much awaited Chess events in Metro Manila – The 2012 JBS CGNI Manila Chess Battle 2 also dubbed as Smart Prepaid Chess Challenge gets underway at 10:00 am on December 15 at the Robinson's Otis in Paco, Manila.

Cash prizes amounting to P40,000.00 ++ are at stake in the one-day event being put up by JBS Consumer, Goods and Novelty Inc. and Smart Communications Inc.

The tournament is divided into three (3) sections- a. Open – titled and non master players, b. Amateur - 1950 and below (latest NCFP rating) and Kiddies (14 and Under).

The Open Section offers P10,000 to the Champion; P5,000 to second; P3,000 to third; P 2,000 to forth placer; P1,000 to fifth placer: P500 each to 6th -10th placer.

Top finisher in different categories, such as lady, senior, high School and Top College will also get P500.

At stake in the 1950 and below standard NCFP rating are P4000 for the Champion, P2000 to 2nd, P1000 to 3rd, P700 to the 4th and P500 to the 5th placer and P300 each to 6th -10th placer.


In the Kiddies (14 and Under ), the Champion will receive P2,000 , P1000 to second, P700 to third; P 500 to forth placer; P400 to fifth placer and P250 each to 6th -10th placer.

Each Participant will received Smart Prepaid sim card, T-shirt and one cellphone will be raffled every round according to Mr. Enrico Garcia of JBS- CGN Inc.

Among the early favorites are GM Oliver Barbosa, GM-elect Ronald Dableo , IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia, IM Petronio Roca, FM Paolo Bersamina and WIM Catherine Perena.

Chief Arbiter is International Arbiter Gene Poliarco assisted by National Arbiters Alfredo Chay, Alex Dinoy, Milo Samaniego, Club Arbiter Noel Morales, Pairing Manager is NA Gatz Luz and organized by All Bulacan Chess Federation.

Deadline of registration will be on December 14, 2012, additional P50 for late entry. Round 1 will start at 11:15 am. Late entry will be accepted until 12:30pm before the start of round 2. The tournament will be limited to 128 participants per section only.
